Snowdrop campaign

Snowdrop campaign
Following the shootings in Dunblane primary school, a group of bereaved parents and their friends mounted the Snowdrop petition, followed by a whole series of other initiatives designed to attract publicity for their cause, the abolition of handguns. As an example of campaigning on single-issue politics, the activists were highly successful. Their efforts convinced Labour of the need to promise a ban in the 1997 election, a pledge honoured shortly after the party came to power. Snowdrop was then dissolved.
